It All Adds Up!
“Success isn’t overnight. It’s when every day you get a little better than the day before. It all adds up.”
Dwayne Johnson
Something I believe in deeply, and the core message I want Power of One Fitness to be known for, is that strength and fitness training is about building a body that’s not just strong, but a body that is ready for life.
This isn’t just about lifting heavier, running further or changing how your body looks with more lean muscle and less fat (though those are awesome wins!). It’s about building what is called compound fitness – a powerful combination of strength, mobility, aerobic health, and solid nutrition. The magic happens when you put all these together.
I’m a big fan of building real strength – not just for the gym, but for life. That could mean squatting with confidence, carrying your child or shopping without straining, or pushing through a tough day with energy to spare. Strength training builds lean muscle, fires up your metabolism, and gives you that unmistakable “I’ve got this” feeling.
Mobility often gets overlooked, but let’s be honest – it’s no fun being strong if you can’t move properly. Tight hips, cranky shoulders, stiff back? Been there. That’s why I try to weave mobility into your training programme. A few simple moves a day can keep you limber, prevent injuries, and make every workout (and daily task) feel smoother.
Cardiovascular fitness isn’t just for people in lycra with GPS watches. It’s for everyone. Your heart is a muscle too, and keeping it strong means more stamina, better recovery, and sharper mental focus. Whether it’s hill sprints, a brisk walk, dancing or some sweaty circuits, it all counts and adds up. And while you might not find specific aerobic fitness exercises in your programme, improving your anaerobic fitness through heavy, compound lifts that work through several joints will automatically bring your aerobic fitness up with it.
No surprises here, but how you fuel your body directly impacts how it performs. If you eat real, whole foods most of the time, keep yourself hydrated, and support your workouts with solid nutrition your body will thank you and start to perform better. Think of protein for muscle repair, carbs for energy, fats for brain and nerve health (as well as a host of other great things!), and water to keep everything working in order.
Compound fitness means looking at the whole picture: not just one workout, one meal, or one goal. It’s about becoming strong, fit, mobile, and nourished, so you can show up every day as your most powerful self ready to take on life. It’s not about being perfect – it’s about being committed.
You don’t need to do it all at once. That’s the beauty of the Power of One Fitness mindset. One rep. One meal. One better choice at a time.
And a better choice you could make is to book yourself onto the ‘Summer Blast’ course that accredited nutritionist, Gemma Westfold, and I are starting on the 23rd June – that’s less than a week away! Through this short course, we are aiming to help you with your compound fitness including with your training (things you can do anywhere and anytime), dialling in your nutrition (with advice, recipes and more), increasing your energy, and feeling 100% prepared for the summer – all for the great price of £99.
