Take Your Workout Away

Take Your Workout Away

“The journey, not the arrival, matters.”

T.S. Eliot

The summer holidays are almost upon us, and many of us will be going away with our families. The excitement builds. It’s meant to be a time, once you’ve got through the travel headaches such a passport control or motorway traffic jams, of rest, relaxation and recuperation; a time to sit back and enjoy life. “But going away will mean that I’ll skip workouts and hinder my progress!” or “I’ll lose all that I have worked so hard for (or your gainz in gym bro speak)!”. Don’t sweat it! You will be fine.

A week or two recharging the batteries will do you, your brain and your body a world of good. Unless you are specifically working towards a bodybuilding show and having single digit body fat percentages is vitally important, enjoying the local cuisine and beverages is also a totally enjoyable part of the holiday experience. Certainly one I wouldn’t miss out on!

So my advice is, just as you are taking time out from the day to day of business and work, to take time out from your normal schedule of working out and enjoy yourself. That’s what holidays are for!

There is a caveat to that. Of course! There is always a caveat!

This one is fairly simple though. Just keep being active as often as you can. Walk, swim, hike around the local area, play with the kids, bike, try something new like paddle boarding or kayaking, dance, go sightseeing (which usually involves quite a bit of walking), anything, but just keep moving. Try to move often each day and try to move daily.

Your body and brain will love the experience.

If you did want to get some workouts in, you may find that the hotel gym (if there is one) does not have the equipment that you are used to using. Or you may be staying in a holiday cottage somewhere in the wilds and definitely don’t have any equipment. There is a solution.

You can access your workouts through the power of technology with the Power of One Fitness app (available on iPhone and Android). Give me enough notice, and I will build you some bodyweight workouts that you can do anywhere without any equipment for no extra charge if you are an existing client, which will allow you to keep progressing towards your chosen goal.

So whether you want to switch off completely on holiday or do some workouts that will keep you on track I am only too happy to help.

Although being stuck on the motorway or waiting for a delayed flight might make you feel differently about the journey, TS Eliot famously said it is about the journey and not the destination. That includes your health and fitness as well as applying to life and possibly your holiday.

And if you’d like a chat about being as healthy as possible while travelling click the gold button right underneath this paragraph and get a call in the diary.
