Time Certainly Flies

Time Certainly Flies

Time flies when you are having fun.

Where does time go? Last week’s edition of this newsletter was all about time whizzing past and making the most of the time we have available to us. It is hard to believe that it was ten years ago that I walked away from my career in teaching to venture out on my own as a personal trainer. And what an awesome ten years it has been, with hundreds of clients helped, so much learning still ongoing (from an anatomical and physiological point of view, as well as from a business one). And so that old adage about time flying when you are having fun certainly holds true in this case. Time has certainly flown by! But there have been some cherished memories along the way.

Memories like obtaining my Level 3 Personal Training certificate back in 2015, and knowing that was just the start. Or having a client with type II diabetes come off their metformin as a result of the work we had been doing with their nutrition and in the gym. Or the recovering alcoholic client who, after hard work and determination on their part, posted perfect liver readings. Or the client who began to look forward to exercise after years of dreading it. Or the 80 year old who struggled to get out of a chair, but through specific exercise sessions carried out over Zoom during the pandemic was able to dance the nights away on a cruise once we were able to go on holiday again.

The list goes on and on, and if you have been – or still are – a client of Power of One Fitness, hopefully you have a favourite memory or take away from the training and coaching sessions.

This newsletter often talks about acknowledging what you have done and celebrating small wins along the way, so if you’ll indulge me this time, I am reflecting and celebrating in this newsletter.

There have been, at last count, over 500 clients helped to be fitter, stronger, leaner and healthier in one guise or another, be that via in-person training sessions, online PT (have I ever mentioned my app? 😉), nutrition coaching or through the various types of bootcamp run over the ten years of Power of One Fitness.

All those clients have had different reasons for wanting to achieve their personal goals; each and every one of them completely valid. And it was important that I, as their coach, tried to understand what made them tick, what energised them, and how to best get them moving towards where they wanted to end up.

So yes, I am acknowledging the positive impact that I have been lucky enough to have on my clients’ lives, but also the impact that they have had on mine. And in that acknowledgement there is a quiet smile hovering on my face, because it is an absolute privilege to be able to help people be better physically. I love what my ‘job’ entails, and I am truly blessed to be able to do what I do. So thank you to all of those clients, past and present.

And I’d love to be able to help many more people, so if you’d like some advice on how to be healthier or fitter or stronger, or are not sure how to make progress (or even where to start), please do get in touch. There will be much more to come over the next ten years.
