Create positive change with consistent behaviours
When a client comes up with a saying like, “It’s Not About the RESISTANCE. It’s about the PERSISTENCE!” you just have to write it down. It is pure gold dust, and encapsulates what I try to achieve with my clients; being consistent in their approach to health, nutrition and fitness, instead of going for the big wins all the time.
Does this mean we don’t celebrate wins? Of course we do. We celebrate every little win that is achieved. Each and every win is recorded with a smiley face in a log book, no matter how big or how small.
In fact recording the small wins is, in my mind, far more powerful. It creates an atmosphere of success, and a will to keep on trying. To achieve. To win. To hit goals.
Fostering a climate where the client feels that they are having success breeds the will to carry on, and to be consistent in their approach. It brings about a sense of enjoyment and accomplishment through the process, instead of focussing on the end goal. Each and every small ‘win’ adds up, through a compounding effect, to some pretty big and positive changes in the lives of the clients.
If a client gets too hung up on the numbers, and doesn’t hit a personal best every time, they could well get discouraged, feel like a failure and possibly even quit. That’s a situation no one wants to be in.
We are all human. We can’t hit a new best time or lift every workout. Same as we may well slip up and eat something unhealthy, or have an extra glass of our favourite tipple. So what? Does that mean we have failed and should give up entirely? Or does it just mean that we are indeed human, and just have to try to be better next time out.
So, absolutely; It’s Not About the RESISTANCE. It’s about the PERSISTENCE! Stick with it and see what positive change happens in your life.
