Four Per Cent

Four Per Cent

A one-hour workout is 4% of your day.

Anon

How often do we complain that we don’t have enough time? Enough time to do the things that we want to do? Enough time to do the things that will make our lives healthier? If you are like the majority of the population it is more than likely that you have had that thought flit into your brain. The quote at the top of this newsletter might sound incredible (how can that be right?), or glib, but I’m not trying to shame anyone into going to do a workout. However, we might have more time than we think.

Granted, one hour is indeed only four per cent of a whole twenty four hour time period. However, when we factor in the time we spend asleep, which is possibly about 33% of our day if you are lucky enough to get that mythical and oft-quoted eight hours, suddenly that one hour workout is now six and a quarter per cent of your day.

And then you have probably the major non-negotiable where time is concerned: work, which is likely to be another eight hours or so. Now that one hour workout is up to twelve and a half percent of your day. It’s not so easy to fit it in now, is it?

Then take away the time spent eating (let alone the time afterwards to digest before strenuous activity), dealing with children, school runs, cooking dinner, and everything else that daily life throws at you and suddenly that one hour workout could be twenty five per cent of the time you have remaining. That is one quarter of your available day. Could you fit that workout into your day now?

But I have to get dressed into my workout clothes and drive to the gym! And that takes time!

I hear you. How about scheduling that workout into your diary as an appointment? You are less likely to miss it now.

Or you could do what I have talked about before, and that is doing what you can, when you can with whatever equipment you have available to you. If you can spare forty minutes instead of the hour, do that. If all you have available, timewise, is five minutes, then a series of bodyweight workouts completed throughout your day is awesome. Do that! It is certainly better than doing nothing.

Exercise is one of those brilliant things that compound up when you do them. Like savings in your pension that will have compound interest added to them, exercise will have beneficial effects on your body. You just have to exercise regularly for that effect to happen. Albert Einstein called compound interest the eighth wonder of the world. You can reap similar benefits by regularly doing some form of exercise and strength training.

If you are not sure where to start with all of this, or how best to allocate time to take advantage of that compound interest, please get in touch with me. I’d love to hear from you and help you start, or help you design your workout programme and schedule.

Perhaps you’d like help with nutrition too. Sales are currently open for the 10 day ‘Summer Blast!’ that accredited nutritionist, Gemma Westfold, and I will be running at the end of June for the sum of £99. We are giving people a starting point, information, exercises, advice and live Q&A sessions that will help them navigate the busy summer period, while hopefully providing them with more energy. If you would like to sign up for that programme we would love to have you as a participant. The link to do so is here: https://buy.stripe.com/aEUdRh4WZ4Qh3ug28d
